Ixxat CAN/FD Repeater Standard

For seamless compatibility with modern CAN FD protocols, the new Ixxat CAN/FD Repeater Standard supports two independent CAN/FD channels capable of arbitration rates up to 1 Mbits/s and data rates up to 8 Mbits/s. The new repeater supports advanced network layouts such as stub lines, tree, and star configurations, offering a flexible and optimized CAN FD network design. Its transparent operation ensures compatibility with all high-layer CAN protocols while maintaining a low transmission delay at approximately 175 ns in 35 m of cable.

Robust Industrial Communication

In addition to transmission, the new device features network monitoring and fault recovery capabilities in case of a fault. The repeater automatically isolates the segment affected by the fault to prevent further problems, and it reconnects once the issue is fixed. This isolation reduces the chances of EMI affecting the network segment. By offering a 5 kV galvanic isolation between the power supply and the CAN/CAN FD segments, the repeater safeguards sensitive electronics from voltage spikes and grounding problems.

When it comes to design, the IP20-rated housing offers a slim DIN-rail mountable enclosure ideal for small cabinet spaces. Its removable push-in connector makes installation fast and tool-free while the external piano switch simplifies bus termination without disassembling the repeater. Its 120-Ohm-integrated bus termination resistor helps prevent signal reflections and ensures optimal communication on the bus lines. The new repeater also features intuitive LED indicators and clear labels that support direct diagnostic information and error-free installation.

Optimizing Industrial Networks

HMS has designed the Ixxat CAN/FD Repeater Standard to align with modern industrial needs and to meet the growing demand for more sustainable engineering practices. The repeater is shipped in “eco-friendly” recyclable cardboard packaging, and HMS has replaced printed manuals with digital resources, lowering the impact of waste on the environment.

The new repeater, priced at 222 euros, makes advanced features in a single unit accessible to various industries, including automotive, energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing. HMS highlights the new solution as an option for industrial engineers seeking performance and sustainability in their CAN industrial needs.
