LS Electric has developed its first IE5-rated electric motor. IE5 classification is the highest efficiency rating an electric motor can receive. According to LS Electric, its new IE5 "super high-efficiency" motor is designed to reduce power usage by 3% compared to IE3 electric motors on the market today.

LS Electric manufactures automation hardware, such as VFDs, power transmission equipment, electric vehicle parts, and photovoltaic (PV) cell energy management solutions. With its latest IE5-rated motor, the company has rounded out its energy-saving hardware.

A motor's International Efficiency (IE) rating ranges from IE1 to IE5 classifications. In this system, IE1 is considered "standard efficiency," and IE5 is "ultra premium efficiency," the most efficient class. The naming shows how technology has advanced since the standard was first developed.

The newest motors by LS Electric, dubbed "super high-efficiency" motors, are rated at IE5. These IE5-rated motors offer high performance with lower energy usage, making them a good option for new construction or a great upgrade for existing processes. According to LS Electric, the new motors use 3% less electricity than an IE3-rated motor, one of the commonly used motors today. For continuous use, this energy savings can add up quickly.

Energy Efficiency Solutions

LS Electric envisions these high-efficiency motors being used in the steel, cement, and water treatment industries. All of these industries rely heavily on electric motors and are already straining to meet their environmental goals. Replacing a lower-efficiency electric motor with one of LS Electric's IE5-rated super high-efficiency motors could lower operating expenses and reduce a company's carbon footprint.

With over half of the world's energy consumption tied up in electric motor usage, LS Electric aims to help industries lower their energy costs while also meeting their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.
