Azure IoT Operations
For those unfamiliar with Azure IoT Operations, it is a data unification hub that provides customers with data services supported by Kubernetes clusters on the edge. Kubernetes is an open-source framework for automating containerized application implementation and management.
When a group of machines, called nodes, collaborate to run applications, it's called a Kubernetes cluster. Kubernetes manages these nodes to guarantee uninterrupted service and continuous performance. Kubernetes swiftly transfers duties to another node in the event of a node failure, ensuring the system continues to function effectively. Additionally, it distributes the workload evenly among nodes to avoid overloading any one computer. With less manual involvement, this system streamlines the application management process and increases the applications' efficiency, scalability, and dependability.
Customers can leverage various tools and solutions within Azure IoT Operations to enhance edge infrastructure, managing data from multiple assets to support digital transformation efforts. Customers can also enhance interoperability between OT and IT systems, optimize security for end-to-end operations, and leverage AI to conduct data analytics and insight generation to improve operational efficiency.
FactoryTalk Optix
FactoryTalk Optix software platform is employed to construct Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications. By enabling remote cooperation and eliminating the requirement for physical infrastructure, engineers can operate in cloud environments. Its HTML5 web-based interfaces allow system management and tracking on PCs, tablets, and cell phones.

The program includes architectural elements, including drag-and-drop functionality and editable templates for creating HMIs and SCADA systems, and it connects with other FactoryTalk suite applications. It has security features like encryption and user authentication and connects to several databases for real-time control and surveillance. The system is scalable to fulfill the requirements of both small and large applications.
The Rockwell-Microsoft Partnership
Rockwell has integrated a generative AI Copilot created with Microsoft into its cloud-native design tool, FactoryTalk Design Studio. The Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service-supported tool enables engineers to leverage AI to generate code, troubleshoot issues, detail code functions, and deliver product guidance. This reduces complex workflow steps, which expedites system design and deployment.
No downloads or installation is needed for FactoryTalk Design Studio. It facilitates multi-user collaboration along with integrated version control for controlling changes. By reducing the complexity of designing automated systems and improving troubleshooting, development teams can adjust to shifting automation requirements.

Rockwell and Microsoft are working together to offer AI and generative AI capabilities to manufacturers by incorporating Rockwell's FT Optix Food & Beverage model into Microsoft's AI model catalog. The system provides machine operators context-based guidance by delivering AI-assisted instructions through the FactoryTalk Optix platform using Microsoft's Phi-3 small language models. This solution expedites decision-making, reduces human error, and reduces operational costs to facilitate the evolution of digitally-focused industrial operations.
