SMC AC Adapter Makes Bench Testing M12 Devices Easier for Techs
Designed for automation technicians, SMC’s AC adapter provides a prewired M12 connection and up to 1 amp of output for quick device setup and diagnostics.
SMC introduced an AC adapter that lets technicians power and bench-test M12 devices before installing them in an automation system. Available in two models, the adapter supports 120/240 VAC input and provides up to 1 amp of output through a prewired M12 connector, eliminating the need for improvised wiring or a dedicated industrial power-supply setup. Machine builders, controls engineers, and maintenance technicians can use the adapter to configure devices, test parameters, troubleshoot equipment, and prepare wireless products before installation.

Whether you are a machine builder, maintenance engineer, or automation DIY’er, bench testing sensors can shorten integration time. Connecting your new sensor without installing it in the system lets you test different settings and parameters and debug control code. When troubleshooting a sensor that isn't functioning, being able to apply power safely and quickly can help reduce downtime. SMC has recently released an AC adapter with an M12 connector already wired. This adapter is designed for many SMC products and doesn’t require sketchy wiring.

Testing Before Installing
The SMC AC adapter comes in two models: A corded model supporting voltages up to 125 VAC and a cordless model that supports higher voltages. The adapter itself is compatible with 120 / 240 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz. Resembling a laptop charger, the AC adapter is basically a bench testing device that some people might make themselves; the difference being that the adapter from SMC is professionally built, comes with an M12 connector that works with SMC products already installed, outputs the correct voltage, and offers up to 1 amp of output current.
Bench testing devices is a great way to debug automation code, try different parameters, and become familiar with the product before installing it in the system. With machine building, any task that can be pulled ahead of schedule, such as debugging and setup before initial power-on, will only get your product to market faster.

The Maintenance Engineer Toolbox
The people who keep automation equipment running need many different tools in their toolbox, and the AC adapter from SMC should be in any maintenance electrician's or controls engineer’s toolbox. When equipment goes down, the company loses money by the second, so having an adapter to power on devices before installation can reduce downtime by letting technicians set up the device before it is installed. Providing a tool that lets personnel power on devices before installation is SMC’s way of supporting engineers and maintenance staff on the factory floor or in the field.
