Modern building management is constantly evolving, with occupant comfort now a necessity rather than a luxury. Maintaining ideal temperature, lighting, and air quality requires precise control, while the need to optimize energy use and cut operational costs continues to grow. At the same time, reliable communication between building systems is essential.

Phoenix Contact’s new Catan controller family addresses these challenges by simplifying room automation across various environments, from hospitals and data centers to commercial office spaces. Built on the Niagara 4 framework, Catan provides intelligent building management, allowing engineers to optimize performance.

Catan Building Automation Controller

Phoenix Contact’s new Catan building automation controller is built with versatility and efficiency in mind. Its compactness allows it to fit into any electrical distributor, making it a practical choice for various applications. The controller’s flexible input and output configurations give users more control over their setup. Phoenix Contact also allows customers to order only the exact number of inputs and outputs needed, helping to reduce costs.

Designed for easy expansion, the Catan controller supports up to 16 external modules and connects using a single-pair Ethernet (SPE) communication bus. For added convenience, an optional plug-in touch display simplifies operation by providing clear visualization and enabling local priority controls. Whether used in a new system or integrated into an existing one, the controller supports BACnet, KNX, Modbus, MQTT, and OPC UA, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of communication protocols.

Emalytics Building Management System

One of the standout features of the Catan controller is its integration of the Emalytics building management system based on the Niagara 4 framework. This platform gives building engineers a centralized way to oversee a building's entire digital infrastructure. Users can track energy consumption in real time, adjust HVAC settings based on occupancy, and get alerts for potential equipment issues — all from a single dashboard. Combining automation, monitoring, and data collection in one system helps improve operations and makes building management more efficient.

The browser-based Emalytics View software lets users build custom dashboards and visualizations tailored to their needs. A building engineer, for example, could set up a dashboard to compare energy usage across different floors or monitor the performance of specific equipment over time, making it easier to make informed decisions. In addition to improving efficiency, Emalytics is designed to scale and receive continuous updates, allowing it to adapt to changing building requirements and integrate new technologies without expensive upgrades.

Comprehensive Building Controls

In today's demanding building management landscape, efficiency, adaptability, and simplistic integration is paramount. Phoenix Contact's Catan controller family, coupled with the power of the Emalytics building management system, offers a comprehensive solution for building engineers.
