When testing the diode between the emittor and collector in an IGBT with a multimeter, the reading stays at 2.5 volts. No voltage drop is given.

I tested between the E and C and no voltage drop occured, but when testing between the gate and the collector, a large voltage drop occured, even more than a normal diode.

Why is that and does this mean the IGBT is faulty?

 

Responding to Slippies's query....

1) Is your multimeter set on "Diode Test" position?
2) The meter's voltage may be too low. That is, the available test voltage of the multimeter may not be able to turn the IGBT on!
