We have six 200MW coal Units. At the present time we have the task to replace outdated control systems installed on these ones. As I see, here are best professionals with wide experience in that field.

So may somebody advise us, which of these three system: Ovation (Emerson), SPPA T3000 (Siemens), xA800 (ABB) the most suitable and reliable for our Power Plant?

All three systems will be offered us in the near future. So, we have to make the only right chioce for all our units. Thanks in advance.

I can only speak with experiences with Ovation and ABB. We currently operate a 250MW base loaded gas turbine plant with an Emerson ovation system commissioned in 2005. Our experience with the ovation system has been very positive. A lot of the ovation hardware is based on the older WDPF platform which has been around for a long time.

An older plant of ours is still using an ABB INFI 90 system. As with any legacy system parts are getting difficult to come by, and technical support is a challenge. I know that Emerson has increased their market share quite a bit in the last several years, and a larger market base makes a better system for all. ABB is really pushing the new 800XA, it will be interesting to see how many units they can get installed. The problems I saw with ABB in years past was they bought out so many other systems that trying to support all of them was almost impossible.

From my point of view only, I would strongly recommend the Emerson system, based on the experience we have had with their hardware and technical support. That said, others with experience on other systems may have good feedback as well.

Many thanks for reference! We are also inclided to Emerson`s Ovation now. In my opinion Siemens did they best to complicate an end user of SPPA T3000: intricate structure of system, one part of algorithms executing in Application server, some part in Simatic controllers and some part in FUM modules. It`s not best decision I think.
Anyway thanks for reply and real help!

My opinion SPPA-T3000 better, than Emerson. I have got only one software "Workbench" and I can doing all as I wish.

Concerning FUM, Application server, Automation server - do not worry. You must doing only one comissioning and You may forget about them. This is very comfortable for me.

I worked on SPPA T3000 from Siemens. It is quite structured and balanced DCS from Siemens. The role of every component is clearly defined. It has two highways Application & Automation. All the components like Thin client, S7 CPU's has their role to. Ovation is also looking good as system configuration.
