Reverse proximity probes

You haven’t stated the application in mind;
but my understanding of forward / reverse mounting is simply where the mounting bracket aligns the proximity switch.

A working example is a large toothed wheel with 2 switches mounted in one bracket to give quadrature o/p [forward & reverse plus rotational speed] where the sensing edge is not at the circumference but switches mounted horizontally pointing to the toothed side edge.

Mounting forward means they are easy access - mounting reverse means they are out of the way but harder to access. The working example was in the mining industry where at some point they would meet a maintenance miners steel toecap boot. So after that the proximity switches were reverse mounted tucked out of the way.
