Hi anybody,

Hope someone could help me. I have serial printer Siemens DR-236N. The problem is the printer is damaged and the product is obsolete, so I cannot have the replacement. Unfortunately I do not know any equivalent printer. So I'm thinking of replacing the printer with a PC, so the alarm which originally was sent to printer will be sent to PC and recorded to the database.

Does anybody know how to do the trick, or if anybody could give some advice, I really appreciate it.

Best Regards

To all,

I have "printed" alarms to a serial VT100 dumb terminal. Works, but no ability to scroll back and review or save a copy to a file. Printing to a PC running HyperTerminal is OK, you can scroll back and dump to a file. ProComm and Telix are better communication packages, HyperTerminal is free with XP.

The file that can be created is an ASCII text file, not a database.

http://www.machineautomation.ca has a really neat product call Alarm Analyst. Can do real time alarm analysis
including: Sequence of Events, Hourly Rates, Burst, Alarm and Event
Distributions, Standing Time, Pareto Analysis, Annotated Time lines, Severity Analysis, Pattern Recognition, Best fit, Top 10, Total time in alarm.
