Disclosure first: I run PLC & SCADA Jobs, an employer-direct job directory for industrial automation. I'm not a controls engineer, and I'm not recruiting or selling anything here. I'm researching an article on how controls and SCADA postings could describe the real scope of work better. AI helped me organize research and draft this post.
What did your PLC, SCADA or controls job description leave out about the day-to-day work?
Optional, if useful:
Disagreement is welcome, including "the description was fine, the problem is elsewhere." No signup, email, résumé or link is requested. I won't quote or identify anyone outside this thread without asking first.
What did your PLC, SCADA or controls job description leave out about the day-to-day work?
Optional, if useful:
- A requirement that meant something different in practice ("PLC programming" that was mostly troubleshooting, "SCADA" that was mostly networking/IT, etc.)
- Travel, overnight commissioning, on-call or overtime that wasn't clear at offer stage
- An unusually accurate posting: what made it good? Hiring managers: what's hard to put into a posting?
