ControlByWeb, a company that specializes in providing web-based control and monitoring solutions for industrial and commercial applications, has announced the release of a new temperature monitoring solution. The solution is designed to simplify temperature monitoring in the installation process and reduce overall system complexity. ControlByWeb has achieved this by creating temperature sensors and adapters that can easily daisy-chain together.

Temperature Monitoring in Industrial Automation

Temperature monitoring in an industrial setting involves continuously observing and managing temperature levels within various processes, equipment, and environments. Temperature sensors and the data they provide are crucial for ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and product quality. Some common applications where temperature monitoring is vital include agriculture, food and beverage, data centers, and utilities.

Quick-Connect Temperature Solution

Manually setting up multiple temperature sensors can be time-consuming. Typically, each sensor must be directly linked to a controller before being connected in a daisy chain. This process can become even more challenging if the central system is inaccessible from the installation site.

ControlByWeb's 400 series edge controllers, paired with the company’s new Quick-Connect Sensor, can help simplify this process. Less complex temperature monitoring systems can save time and minimize complexity while reducing the risk of errors through ControlByWeb's included built-in auto-detection capabilities.

The IoT controllers can automatically detect the order of connected sensors. This includes the ability to detect the sensor’s device IDs, which can reduce the time it takes to install a temperature monitoring system. This works for new and existing setups, so current users can upgrade their systems for automatic sensor detection and configuration if desired.

Quick-Connect Sensor and Adapters

ControlByWeb’s Quick-Connect Temperature solution includes two new sensor solutions: the Quick-Connect Sensor (X-QCS), a single temperature sensor with daisy-chain capability, and Quick-Connect Adapters (X-QCA) that can be used to create interfacing possibilities between the X-QCS and IoT controllers.

Each X-QCS comes with a thermally conductive adhesive for attachment to the equipment they will monitor. The bottom of the sensor consists of a conductive copper surface that can accurately gauge a surface's temperature. The sensing units can also be used to read ambient air temperature. Sensors in a daisy chain can be connected using data cables, with a maximum cable length of 600 ft.

Code Free Environmental Monitoring

ControlByWeb’s 400 series edge controllers include no-code controllers that can monitor temperature using a built-in 1-Wire bus. Users can set up the controllers using simple if-this then-that logic and drop-down menus in the controller’s user interface. ControlByWeb offers two specific controllers designed for temperature and humidity monitoring to be used as part of the company’s Quick-Connect temperature solution: the X-405 and X-406.

The X-405 Temp and Humidity Module can log data from up to 16 sensors. It shares this information with third-party software and can also log data via the ControlByWeb Cloud. The controller has been designed for applications such as cold storage, boiler rooms, and commercial refrigeration.

The X-406 1-Wire Multi-Bus is a more advanced version of the X-405, featuring four independent 1-Wire buses that can support up to 64 sensors. It is also compatible with the cloud. The X-406 is ideal for use in more complex applications, such as in warehouses, data centers, and greenhouses. Users can add the X-QCA-4 adapter to daisy chain from four of the controller’s individual ports.
