Carlo Gavazzi SPDL Series Power Supplies Offer Compact Efficiency
The new SPDL series offers up to 75 W of power in a compact 32 mm wide package. In addition to a small build, these power supplies are DIN-rail mountable and designed to operate in extreme temperatures.
Carlo Gavazzi recently began production of a compact power supply, a mere 32 mm wide. The SPDL series compact power supply is designed to be used by machine builders and automation system designers for tight spaces and locations where extreme heat and cold cause other power supplies to fail. Available in models that can generate up to 75 W, the SPDL series complements other Carlo Gavazzi power supplies that range from 120 W to 240 W.
SPDL Series Power Supplies
The SPDL series power supplies are available in 15 W, 30 W, 60 W, and 75 W and are only 32 mm wide for all models. According to Carlo Gavazzi, the SPDL series saves users 20% panel space and features a 35% weight reduction when compared to conventional power supplies. The power supplies are designed to output either 12 VDC or 24 VDC, both of which are commonly used in industrial applications. From there, output current is what varies between models, which is what allows for the different power outputs.

Standard screw terminals are used for connections. Each power supply has a green LED to indicate that it is functioning properly and a screw adjustment for changing the output voltage. On the backside, they can be mounted on DIN rails, making them easy to integrate with existing terminal blocks, PLCs, and other control and automation hardware.
The power supplies are up to 88% efficient and are certified by numerous standards from independent labs. CE, UL62368 standards are met for all models, and the 75 W model also meets UL61010.
Ruggedized Performance
Designed with industry in mind, these power supplies are capable of withstanding extreme temperatures (-40 ºC to 80 ºC). Power supplies are often a major contributor to the heat loading in the system, so having a power supply that can withstand high temperatures is an advantage. Each power supply is equipped with a thermal protection circuit that will begin degrading output power should the power supply become too warm.
Besides thermal performance, the SPDL series power supplies are protected from electrical problems. Each power supply is electrically isolated up to 3 kVAC and has integrated overvoltage, overcurrent, and short circuit protection circuits.

All power supplies are rated to IP20, protecting technicians from accidental contact with live components other than the screw terminals. They are designed to be mounted inside a machine or cabinet away from water or dusty environments.
Compact DIN-Rail Power Supplies
The SPDL series compact power supplies will be useful for machine and automation system builders who want to conserve both physical footprint and weight. With DIN rail mounting capability, these power supplies will fit alongside other terminal blocks in tight spaces.
Besides machine builders, these power supplies will also help engineers upgrade existing systems. Bigger power supplies can be replaced, potentially adding room for more terminal blocks for collecting data. This makes retrofitting and modernizing old automation systems easier than having to redesign and mount new DIN rail.
