Quickly Test Sensors With Carlo Gavazzi’s ST-04
Carlo Gavazzi’s ST-04 sensor tester offers quick, portable diagnostics for 3- and 4-wire sensors, helping reduce factory downtime and speed up integration.
The ST-04 sensor tester from Carlo Gavazzi is a portable, easy-to-use diagnostic tool designed to identify faulty sensors in industrial environments quickly. With support for multiple sensor types and configurations, it helps maintenance teams and integrators reduce downtime and streamline troubleshooting on the factory floor.

Troubleshooting Sensors
When equipment stops making products, the factory suffers, so the maintenance staff needs to diagnose the problem quickly. If a sensor is suspected to be causing the problem, you need a fast and easy way to test the sensor. The new sensor tester from Carlo Gavazzi might just be the tool for the job.

The ST-04 Sensor Tester
The ST-04 is packed with features designed to help you identify problematic sensors in the field. Portable and battery operated, the ST-04 has spring terminal mechanisms, multiple integrated sensor targets, and a built-in buzzer with LED indicator to show the results of tested sensors. Powered by two 9V batteries or a USB Type-C port, the ST-04 can test inductive, capacitive, photoelectric, and magnetic sensors in either 3-wire or 4-wire, and PNP or NPN configurations.
The front panel of the ST-04 is clearly marked for positive and negative terminals, as well as a low battery indicator. The targets on the back consist of a reflector, an iron target, and an aluminium target. Two indicators show if the unit is configured for NPN or PNP, and an audible buzzer sounds when changing the configuration. The spring terminal allows for easy wiring of the sensor without any tools, and two sensors can be tested at the same time.

Integration and Diagnostic in the Field
The ST-4 sensor tester is a handy tool when trying to determine if old existing sensors are still functional, but it can also be used by system integrators during startup or commissioning. Because of the multiple built-in targets on the back of the unit, sensors can be tested for functionality without removing them. The ST-4 can also be used to set up actuators before they are connected to the control system, which will save integration time.
Downtime in the Factory
When equipment goes down, it is all hands on deck for the maintenance staff; they need to diagnose the problem and replace any broken components quickly. With a sensor tester like the ST-04, virtually any three or four-wire sensor can be tested at the machine soon, resulting in faster recovery time for equipment.
