Introducing the FANUC Control Series and the Upgraded FANUC Robodrill
FANUC has introduced the 500i-A CNC Control series with 5-axis integrated technology and the α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500, including a larger table, increased tool capacity, and improved speed.
FANUC has unveiled its latest innovation, the 500i-A CNC Control, designed to elevate the machining industry. This new offering boasts 5-axis integrated technology and is tailored to meet the advancing requirements of both machine tool builders and CNC users. It prioritizes streamlined operations, enhanced security features, and improved efficiency while maintaining the exceptional precision and reliability associated with FANUC's control platforms.
“With the market demands and challenges, we know there is a real need to make parts quicker, better, and easier,” General Manager of the Factory Automation Division Jon Heddleson said. “The 500i-A CNC will help the industry by providing optimized 5-axis integrated technology, which more shops are moving towards. Plus, the new controls are designed to simplify operation and maintenance.”

So what’s new? The new 500i-A CNC control introduces a dual-engine architecture with 2.7 times the processing power of previous models. This significant increase in processing speed enhances block processing time and macro program processing, reducing cycle times and improving productivity.
The 500i-A control series will incorporate FANUC's new generation i-D Series servo system. The updated control will feature the modern iHMI2 interface, which offers a simplified display with a 1:1 task-to-screen ratio, eliminating the need to switch between screens. On top of that, the 500i-A will include FOCAS3, providing robust protection against cybersecurity threats through user authentication and data access protection.
Bigger, Faster, but Still the Same Size!
FANUC has introduced the latest model of Robodrill, the α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500, which offers an extended Y-Axis stroke of 500mm and an increased table size while maintaining the same footprint as previous models. The α-D28LiB5ADV Plus also boasts an expanded tool capacity, accommodating up to 28 tools in the automatic tool change (ATC) system. This new model is specifically optimized for handling larger workpieces, making it well-suited for the electric vehicle industry.

“We understand modern machine shops, particularly in the automotive industry, need to produce constantly, maximize machine time, and reduce any interruptions to production,” says Lou Finazzo, Vice President of FANUC America. “The new α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500 is built for reliable production, tailored to our customers’ needs for extra capabilities without sacrificing any floor space.”
The α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Robodrill is designed to reduce cycle times and improve productivity in drilling and tapping operations. This is achieved through its rapid Z-axis acceleration of 2.2G and a traverse rate of 60 m/min. The machine can handle tools weighing up to 4kg and boasts a quick tool change time of just 1.1 seconds with the advanced model.
