KV-X: The Latest Generation in PLC Technology From Keyence
Keyence has released its latest next-gen PLC, the KV-X, with an impressive quad-core CPU, providing a machine ops recorder and granting preset access to over 300 peripheral device EDS files.
Keyence, a specialist in innovative control devices like sensors, vision systems, and measurement instruments used in manufacturing and industrial automation, has recently announced the release of its latest ‘new generation’ PLC. The KV-X includes features that boost efficiency with enhanced recording of machine operation, faster integration with compatible peripheral equipment, and streamlined programming with updates to the KV STUDIO environment.

Users can expect the new PLC to increase machine performance in some instances, thanks to its high-performance enhancements. A quad-core CPU provides a large computing capacity and is available in combination with a high computational speed. Keyence has also added some advanced troubleshooting and operability features to ensure users can reduce downtime and accelerate setup time.
Integrated Machine Operation Recorder Function
Keyence wants to help reduce factory downtime through the use of an integrated machine recorder function in these new generation KV-X series PLC controllers. This recorder captures all equipment data before and after a shutdown. This allows for quick identification of the problem's root cause, leading to reduced recovery time and enhanced operational availability by applying countermeasures where possible.

The recorder function automatically logs and keeps tabs on all equipment data, including device data, camera data, and event data as they occur. After the data has been recorded, users can access different sources of data from directly before the event in question through a playback function. In addition, an analysis function allows users to view and automatically analyze ladder programs and tree diagrams from related devices.
Features of the KV-X Series PLC
The new generation PLC from Keyence is able to immediately connect with a vast array of devices, giving users a broad range of possible applications for the new technology. This connectivity booth is enabled thanks to the inclusion of over 300 types of EDS files present in the PLC for use. With automatic tag information registration, users have access to data upon startup and can begin to use the power of data in their plant processes immediately.

The KV-X series can continuously improve operating rates through the use of data utilization. This means that the more data the PLC collects, the more logical decisions can be made. Users of the KV-XD02 (data utilization module) can even visualize and analyze PLC data with simple settings adjustments. In addition, it can analyze problems that cause a lower operation rate and save them to the record whenever a user goes back to solve them. Preventative maintenance options are available as well, aligning with many manufacturers' migration to Industry 4.0 measures like implementing preventative maintenance capabilities to equipment.
KV STUDIO Software Enhancements
Lastly, Keyence has integrated the latest revision of the KV STUDIO software into this new PLC series. This means that users will have more flexibility in the IEC 61131-3-compliant program development environment. They will be able to utilize a user-friendly select and place programming tool for enhanced efficiency.
PLC-associated costs can also be reduced through the elimination of licensing running fees. Users will be able to use Keyence’s site license policy which allows free installation and free updates within the company using the new generation PLC.
