Picture This: Balluff’s 5GigE Cameras See It All
Balluff introduces 5GigE Vision cameras designed for speed, flexibility, and integration across industrial and robotic inspection systems.
Balluff’s BVS CA-GV 5GigE Vision camera family delivers a powerful mix of speed, precision, and compact design for high-demand industrial imaging. Built on the GigE Vision standard, these cameras achieve up to 625 MB/s throughput while consuming less than five watts, enabling detailed inspection in tight or heat-sensitive environments. Offering multiple Sony CMOS sensor options and flexible integration features, the 5GigE series helps engineers streamline setup and enhance imaging performance across diverse applications.

Compact Hardware, Fast Interface
Each model in the BVS CA-GV line connects through a 5GigE interface that maintains backward compatibility with 2.5 GigE, letting users upgrade without replacing existing PC hardware. Power and data share one PoE cable, simplifying setup and reducing clutter in space-constrained cells. The cameras follow the GigE Vision and GenICam standards for easy integration with common image-processing software and controllers. Despite the small form factor, the design supports multiple electrical connections: one classic input/output channel configurable for 5 or 24 V DC, two GPIOs, and an RS-232 lens or flash control port. The GPIOs can be switched as inputs or outputs, allowing encoder feedback or trigger synchronization.
Broad Sensor and Resolution Options
Resolution spans 3.1 to 24.6 megapixels, covering fast-capture and high-detail imaging. Balluff supports a wide range of Sony CMOS sensors, including the ultraviolet IMX 487/900 series, short-wave-infrared IMX 992 and 993, and wide-angle IMX 901 and 902 sensors with 4:1 and 3:1 aspect ratios. Optional larger lens mounts accommodate bigger sensors or specialized optics, allowing engineers to tailor each camera to its environment.
Low heat generation and efficient thermal handling keep image stability consistent, even under continuous capture. Compact mechanics and steady image quality make the BVS CA-GV line suitable for systems that run around the clock or operate in tight enclosures.
Designed for Easy System Integration
The camera uses a modular design with standard ports, dropping into new or existing systems without much setup. It’s used in robot work, inspection lines, process checks, and logistics tracking. Power over Ethernet cuts down on wiring. The RS-232 port handles small accessories, which means installers can reuse the same setup at different stations.
Electrical isolation and solid grounding within the housing improve signal integrity, while the unit’s minimal current draw reduces load on network switches. For developers, the camera’s consistent mechanical and electrical design across models simplifies multi-resolution system builds.

Application Range
Balluff positions the 5GigE family for industries that combine fast movement and tight accuracy limits: traffic systems, semiconductor inspection, life sciences, pharmaceutical packaging, precision mechanics, and medical imaging. The speed also suits in-line production tests and automated optical inspection, where sub-millisecond exposure and high frame rates are critical. Because the platform supports ultraviolet, visible, and short-wave infrared sensing, one housing type can serve multiple tasks, from reading barcodes to analyzing coatings, materials, or structural defects invisible to the naked eye.
By delivering high data throughput in a camera that draws less than five watts, Balluff’s BVS CA-GV 5GigE Vision series combines speed, efficiency, and flexibility in a compact form. It works with older GigE Vision setups, using the same standard interfaces engineers already know. The wide range of sensors makes upgrading existing systems and building new machine-vision projects on the same platform easy.
