Comau and Tecnomatic, signed a multi-year partnership to address emerging market needs through products’ complete lifecycle.

Through the partnership, the companies intend to provide an engineering approach designed for fully-integrated electrical motor and transmission assembly solutions.

The systems produced by Comau and Tecnomatic will be modular, scalable, cost-effective, and digitally enabled.

Industrial Automation Made in Italy

Both Comau and Tecnomatic are companies with a long history in Italy. Comau was founded in 1973 and headquartered in Grugliasco, Piemonte. The company has grown steadily in the past decades and is now a leader in the industrial automation field. The company combines innovative engineering solutions with open automation and now counts more than 9,000 employees across 32 facilities and 14 countries.

A member of the FCA Group, Comau's portfolio includes technology and systems for electric, hybrid and traditional vehicle manufacturing, industrial robots, and collaborative and wearable robotics.

Also, autonomous logistics, dedicated machining centers, and interconnected digital services and products can transmit, elaborate, and analyze machine and process data.

Tecnomatic, on the other hand, started operations in 1987 and is currently based in Osimo, Marche. The industrial automation firm specializes in the design and manufacturing of manipulators and robots for injection molding of plastics.

It also counts a workforce of 140 people, with a dedicated R&D department for hairpin stator patented concept's design and production processes. Today, Tecnomatic is working towards developing Industry 4.0 solutions integrating technologies such as virtual reality, 3D printers, and collaborative robots.

Complementary Technologies

According to Ennio Chiatante, Global Business Development, Electrification at Comau, the partnership would be part of a long-term strategic vision.

"It underscores our commitment to spearheading innovation within the electrification field and is based on shared objectives and complementary competencies," Chiatante explained.

The new agreement would effectively bring together the two companies' technologies to facilitate electrical motor and transmission assembly processes, as mentioned by Electrification Technical Fellow Gian Carlo Tronzano, who is in charge of the project's technological development.

"By combining Comau's proven know-how and Tecnomatic's patented best-practice hairpin technologies, we reinforce our ability to provide the market with powerful turnkey solutions for the entire electrical motor and transmission assembly process," Tronzano said.

Expanding on Customer Expectations

Comau and Tecnomatic joint efforts would ultimately tailor to deliver on customers' needs.

"We believe it is truly a "win/win/win" agreement, not only in joining our respective expertise but also in giving great support to our present and potential customer needs," said Paolo Datore, Business Development Manager for Tecnomatic.

According to the manager, Tecnomatic's 20 years of experience in hairpin stator technology would merge flawlessly with Comau's competencies and global presence, allowing the companies to support OEMs and Tier 1s in the automotive environment and more.
