What’s So Special about Rainbow Robotics?
Samsung has recently made headlines with its announcement of a major investment in Rainbow Robotics, signaling its intent to strengthen its presence in the advanced robotics sector. Samsung initially acquired a 14.7% stake in the company for about KRW 86.8 billion in 2023. Samsung plans to exercise a call option to boost its stake to 35%.
Founded in 2011 by a group of KAIST researchers, Rainbow Robotics has made a name for itself in the world of robotics. They’ve developed some impressive technology, including legged humanoid robots (Hubo), collaborative robots (cobots), and quadruped robots. One of their standout creations is Hubo, Korea's first two-legged walking robot, demonstrating Rainbow's unique capabilities in the robotic industry. This robot has been sold to world-class research institutes as a research platform. With many of its products designed for various uses, especially in manufacturing and logistics, Rainbow Robotics is all about making workplaces safer and more efficient. The company focuses on human-robot collaboration and is paving the way for smarter solutions that not only improve productivity but also help reduce the physical demands on workers.
