WEG has introduced the W80 AXgen motor, initially launched in North America and Europe, with Brazil's rollout anticipated for the first half of 2025. This axial flux motor exemplifies energy efficiency and a commitment to environmental sustainability, enabling original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to innovate while minimizing logistical costs and CO2 emissions across the production chain.

The W80 AXgen motor is designed for optimal compatibility with WEG’s CFW900 series of inverters, allowing for the operation of multiple motors from a single inverter unit. This innovative configuration eliminates the necessity for additional filtering components, lowering overall system costs and enhancing motor efficiency. The W80 AXgen can improve performance reliability over extended cable runs, with effective operation maintained even at lengths of up to 200 meters.
So What Exactly Is An Axial Flux Motor?
Suppose you’ve never heard of an axial flux motor, axial gap motor, or pancake motor. An axial flux motor is an industrial motor where the gap between the rotor and stator aligns with the motor’s axis of rotation. This design contrasts with the conventional radial flux motor by allowing the magnetic flux to run parallel to the motor’s rotor. The design leads to a compact, lightweight structure that performs exceptionally well in high-torque applications, making it suitable for the electric vehicle industry, renewable energy systems, and various industrial contexts.
